Effect of Ankle Motion and Tensile Stress at the Achilles Tendon on the Contact Pressure Between the Achilles Tendon and the Calcaneus

Impingement between the Achilles tendon and posterosuperior prominence of calcaneus is considered to be a cause insertional tendinopathy. The corresponding treatment intends reduce tensile stress from calf muscles avoid hyper-dorsiflexion ankle joint for decreasing contact pressure; however, no study has reported on whether these treatments can decrease impingement. Thus, this investigated hypothesis that motion affect pressure calcaneus. Six fresh-frozen cadaveric lower leg specimens were procured. Each specimen was set custom foot-loading frame loaded with ground reaction force 40 N load 70 along tendon. measured using miniature sensor under different loadings at neutral position.
